How to Make Your X (Twitter) Account Public
·4 min read
If your posts are protected, only approved followers can see them — which makes it impossible to grow. Making your X (formerly Twitter) account public takes about thirty seconds. The setting is called Protect your posts, and you simply turn it off.
On the web
- Click More in the left menu, then Settings and privacy.
- Go to Privacy and safety → Audience and tagging.
- Uncheck Protect your posts and confirm.
On iPhone and Android
- Tap your profile photo, then Settings and privacy.
- Tap Privacy and safety → Audience and tagging.
- Toggle Protect your posts off.
What changes when you go public
- Anyone can see your posts without following you.
- Your posts can be reposted by others.
- Your posts can show up in search results and on the open web.
- Posts you published while protected become visible too.
Now make your posts work for you
A public account only grows if you post consistently. Plan a batch of posts, split long ideas into a thread with the free thread splitter, and schedule them across X and your other networks with Donivo so you stay visible without posting by hand every day.
